UNS Biology Education Program Holds Second PLP Briefing to Strengthen Students’ Teaching Readiness

Surakarta, Indonesia — August 27, 2026. The Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), held its second School Field Experience (Pengenalan Lapangan Persekolahan/PLP) briefing on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The session was designed to further prepare seventh-semester Biology Education students for their upcoming teaching experience in schools.

The briefing was held at Room 304, Building D, FKIP UNS, and was attended by the Head of the Biology Education Study Program, Prof. Dr. Harlita, M.Si., lecturers, and all seventh-semester students participating in the PLP program. This session followed the first program-level PLP briefing and was complemented by an additional briefing organized at the faculty level.

The activity was opened by Prof. Dr. Harlita, M.Si., who emphasized the importance of thorough preparation before students enter the school environment as prospective teachers.

Strengthening Lesson Planning and Teaching Competencies

The first session was delivered by Chandra Adi Prabowo, S.Pd., M.Pd., who discussed “Strengthening Teaching Competencies and Student Ethics.” The session addressed the professional competencies and ethical responsibilities students need to develop when carrying out their teaching practice in schools.

Students were encouraged to understand that PLP is not merely an opportunity to practice teaching techniques, but also an important stage in developing professional attitudes, responsibility, communication skills, and ethical conduct as future educators.

The second session was presented by Murni Ramli, S.P., M.Si., Ed.D., who discussed “Lesson Plans and Their Implementation.” The session focused on the importance of effective lesson planning as a foundation for meaningful classroom learning.

Through the session, students were prepared to translate their academic knowledge into structured learning activities and to consider how lesson plans can be implemented responsively according to classroom conditions and students’ learning needs.

Preparing Students for Authentic School Experience

The second PLP briefing serves as an important step in consolidating students’ readiness before they begin their school-based field experience. By combining preparation in lesson planning, teaching competencies, and professional ethics, the program seeks to ensure that students are better equipped to navigate real classroom situations.

The briefing also reinforces the connection between university-based teacher education and professional practice. Students are expected to enter schools not only with sufficient subject knowledge, but also with the ability to plan instruction, interact professionally, respond to classroom dynamics, and reflect on their teaching practice.

The Biology Education Study Program, FKIP UNS, remains committed to providing systematic preparation for students undertaking PLP. Through a series of academic briefings and practical experiences, students are expected to develop into competent, ethical, reflective, and well-prepared future Biology educators.
