SURAKARTA, February 10, 2026 – The Biology Education Study Program at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) has reached a historic milestone with the official inauguration of two new Full Professors during the Open Session of the Academic Senate. Held at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram Auditorium, UNS, the ceremony marks a significant leap in the program’s mission to become a world-class center for biological and pedagogical innovation.
Through this inauguration, UNS reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its role as an “Impactful Campus,” expecting the new professors to not only advance scientific boundaries but also provide tangible solutions for societal welfare and national sovereignty.
Pioneering Research from Biology Education’s Finest
The two newly inaugurated professors presented groundbreaking orations showcasing the depth of expertise within the Biology Education Study Program:
-
Prof. Dr. Muzzazinah, M.Si. (Full Professor in Higher Plant Biosystematics) In her oration, “Indigofera longeracemosa: The Rediscovery of Potential Gems to Enhance the Dignity of Batik,” she highlighted the “rediscovery” of a superior natural dye plant. Her research bridges laboratory science with cultural heritage, demonstrating that I. longeracemosa possesses the highest indican content and exceptional drought resistance. This discovery offers a sustainable path for the Indonesian batik industry to achieve “clothing sovereignty” by reducing reliance on imported chemical dyes.
-
Prof. Dr. Harlita, S.Si., M.Si. (Full Professor in Animal Embryology and Development) Presenting “From Waste to Hope: The Activity of Cashew Nut Shell (Anacardium occidentale L.) as Antifertility,” Prof. Harlita explored the untapped potential of cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL). Her research reveals that active compounds like anacardic acid and cardanol from agricultural waste can significantly affect reproductive systems, serving as a biological argument for the development of natural contraceptives. This work transforms environmental waste into a valuable resource for reproductive health science.
Strengthening the Future of Biology Education
The appointment of these two professors is a strategic asset for the Biology Education Study Program. Their high-level expertise in biosystematics and embryology will directly enrich the curriculum, providing students—the future “Gatekeepers of Biodiversity”—with cutting-edge scientific insights.
“A full professor is the highest symbol of academic integrity,” noted the university leadership. “With Prof. Muzzazinah and Prof. Harlita, the Biology Education program is now better equipped to develop innovative learning models and high-impact research that competes on an international scale.”
By fostering an environment where tradition meets innovation—from the chemistry of batik dyes to the complexities of animal development—the Biology Education Study Program continues to lead the way in producing visionary educators and researchers for Indonesia’s future.
