Tambak Halmet, Berjo Village, Ngargoyoso, Karanganyar became core attention of nature lovers when Lawu Birdwatching Competition II 2023. This event was delayed 4 years ago because pandemic covid-19 and this year held by bird watching group “ALBATROS” Biology Education Faculty Teaching and Learning Sebelas Maret University in collaboration with study group “Kepak Sayap” FMIPA Sebelas Maret University and TAHURA KGPAA Mangkunagoro I, was successfully on Friday-Sunday, 13-15 October 2023. This event started at 1:00 p.m. and was attended by 93 participants from various community groups, including students to professional nature lovers that so excited to join this competition. Participants gather in G Building FKIP UNS and leave together to Tambak Halmet.
The purpose of this competition is to explore avifauna potency as a conservation region and ecotourism. All participants compete to observe and identify as many types of birds as possible within the allotted time. They are so excited to write the types of birds at the same time and location. Even, any team was successful in observing the main key species that support the main of this competition.
After hours of intensive observation, all participants were gathered again in committee basecamp to collect their observation results. The team that succeeds in identifying the largest number of bird species and rare birds accurately will be announced as a winner. This event was enlivened by any support activity, including an introduction to the TAHURA environment, Conservation of national parks of Merbabu Mountain, photography, ornithology, a contest of wits and friendly to get to know each other. Besides that, participants overnighted at local people’s homestays as well as a promotional effort of Tambak Halmet ecotourism.
On Sunday, 15 October 2023 at 10:00 a.m. located in TAHURA KGPAA Mangkunagoro I, Ngargoyoso, Karanganyar, board of jury of photography field Lawu Birdwatching Competition II 2023, were decided: Ifan Syahputra as first winner from Pelatuk BSC team of Semarang State University, Dwi Aji Wicaksana as Second winner from Pelanduk Semak team of Airlangga university, Zulaima Rakhmatiar as Third winner from Mbrondol of KP3 Burun Forestation Gadjah Mada University, Ikmal Maulanal Huda was the Fourth winner from the Males Mikiri team of Sahabat Hayat and Alfian Surya from the Klandestin team as the Five winner from KPB Bionic Yogyakarta State University. Furthermore, the board of jury to identify the bird field at Lawu Birdwatching Competition II 2023, was decided: team 18 Meninting from UIN Sunan Kalijaga was the first winner, team 22 Pelatuk BSC from Semarang State University was the second winner and Team 16 Males Mikir from Sahabat Hayat was the third winner. “We also appreciated Zayna Arsyila Muhammad as a younger participant of this competition from sendal jepit team Biology ITS”, concluded the committee.
This year Lawu Birdwatching Competition, an exploration of avifauna potency as a conservation and ecotourism region can popularize ecotourism, especially birdwatching in the Tambak Hamlet area, Berjo Village, Ngargoyoso District, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, and its surroundings. A vehicle for scientific meetings and sharing experiences for groups of bird watchers throughout wonderful Indonesia.
