Nusantara Writing Festival is an annual national essay competition to support the development of quality and quantity human resources, held by Nusantara Muda with theme “Innovation and Creativity for a Better Indonesia” at Malang city (2-3 September 2023). Biology Education students got Silver medals in the agricultural subtheme and Bronze medals in the Technology subtheme. They are Putri Nurlita Sari (2021), Nofa Eka Listiani (2021), Cathmala Arsy Diva Armawan (2022), and Dina Kamilasari (2022) after competing with 49 selected teams.

At the agricultural subtheme, the essay is entitled “CALURIS: Water Soluble Calsium Based Eggshell Waste Functionalized Bioactivator Chlorella vulgaris in Increasing Rice ( Oryza sativa ) Productivity” with website integrated on the bottle. This innovation refers to support zero waste and Sustainable Development Goals point 2 “Zero Hunger”. Background of this innovation are based research from Rombe et al (2020) that Chlorella vulgaris can increase elements N, P and K and eggshell waste contain 97% calcium carbonate to neutralize soil pH. Furthermore, based information from Indonesian Fertilizer Producers Association (2015) the need for NPK fertilizer reached 6.5 million tons.

Then, at the Technology subtheme, the essay is entitled “Trans-Edu: Education Platform and Operational Effectiveness Analysis Public Transportation as Application of Transit-oriented Development in Describing Traffic Jams based on Quickbird Satellite Imagery”. This innovation started from the lack of public knowledge in using public transportation, many areas are not accessible by public transportation and to optimize TOD, based information from Institut for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) and quickbird satellite imagery that can provide a real visual picture of the traffic conditions in the local area so that alternative routes can be taken.

“After participating in this competition, I hope can concentrate more on the field of research and that innovation can b e realized,” Putri concluded.
